Gym Shoes

Hi Kindergarten Parents,

Many students are wearing boots to school because of the snow. Please make sure you also send gym shoes in their tote. Students are not allowed to participate in gym unless they have proper shoes. It is for the kids' safety and also to preserve the gym floor.

100th Day Fun

Students made a special 100th Day Trail Mix. It was a yummy way to practice counting to 100 by 10's!

Students also enjoyed making their necklaces. They counted their beads out carefully to make sure their necklace had 100 beads!

Winter Concert

I can't believe it's already December! It's true that time flies when you're having fun.

Kindergartners have been preparing for the Winter Concert. They will sing in the concert on December 12 at 6:00.

Try to get here a few minutes early, so you can find a seat in the auditorium. I'll stay in the hall with the kids. After the concert, the children will follow me back to the classroom where you will then pick them up.

I hope to see everyone there!

College and Career Readiness

This month teachers and staff are talking with students about our college and career experiences. We want children to think about their futures and realize that every thing we are learning at school is valuable.

Every Friday, teachers, staff, and students are encouraged to wear college gear. Caps are allowed too.

Please talk with your children about college and careers.

Dr. Tim Brown, music teacher who works with all students will talk to children and let them know that he is the first person in his family to get a college degree. (In his own words) “ I'm ready to go with College Readiness Month. I have brought in my diplomas and will spend a few minutes in class talking about having gone to college. I'm a first-generation college graduate. While both of my parents graduated from high school, only one of my grandparents did. And if I can get a doctorate, so can my students.”

Shoes

Many students are coming to school in flip-flops or other open-ended sandals. For their own safety, they are not allowed to participate in gym if they aren't wearing proper gym shoes.

While we do not have gym every day, children run and play outside every day. When students are not wearing athletic type shoes, they are more likely to get their toes stepped on or trip and fall.

Please make sure your child wears shoes that are adequate for gym and recess. Alternatively, you could just send a pair of athletic shoes to keep in your child's locker. That way, if they come to school in flip-flops or sandals, they can change into athletic shoes before gym and recess.

Kindergarten General Fund

We have received the $35 for classroom supplies from almost half of the class. Thank you! This money is used for pencils, crayons, markers, book bags, project supplies, notebooks... you name it! The list could go on and on.

This is just a friendly reminder to turn in your supply money or even a portion of it if you are able. You can give it to the office, to me, or send it in an envelope with your child.

I will be sending home receipts as soon as the office processes everything.

It was great seeing most of you at Kindergarten Night! I hope the ice-cream was worth the wait.

For those of you who were not able to attend, I will send the information I covered home with your child this week.

I highly recommend taking a look at the Educational Websites K-2 link. There are some really fun and education websites. Make sure to look at the school calendar monthly so you are aware of school events, holidays, and teacher work days.

It has been a wonderful first few days. Your children are just precious, and I am looking forward to spending this year with them! It is a great group, and the kids are eager to learn.
